Due to the loss of my elder brother, “Lou” in his first trimester of life, I became the first born of 5 children. My sister Kathy was the middle child. If there is anything significant to the “birth order” theory, then she is the typical middle kid. Somehow there was always a hub-bub of activity wherever she went. Tomorrow is her 62nd birthday, and nothing much has changed. She is still the little whirl-wind! In fact, I called her today at 6:30 am to wish her “Happy Birthday” because she is seldom home and I wanted to give myself a couple of days to reach her before it was too late. We talked close to an hour and I was exhausted by the time we hung up!
She is a very interesting person, and has led an unusual life for a small-town girl. Her career has been as varied as her personal life. She has worked with the mentally retarded, been a women’s prison guard, a trained respiratory therapist, adopted a handicapped child, taken in several mentally challenged foster children who are now adults still in her home, and is currently working with the homeless . Kathy has started a shelter through her church affiliation in her town, and has driven into the desert to gather people into their feeding and shower facility, as well as rescued children helping to legally place them in families, and secured employment for the able-bodied. She has addressed various boards, people in high places, city councils and has her Pastor's blessing and assistance in beginning this ministry. Even the local law enforcement sees she has made a difference, and respects her ministry.
Although she may have certain health issues, Kathy is one of these people who never sits still. She reminds me of the eye of a hurricane...she is at peace while chaos surrounds her!
Even though she has entered her “senior years” I don't see any indication of “retirement”. We have heard it said that we can either rust out or wear out...Kath will wear out! Each one of us have been placed on this earth to have a purpose and to make a difference!
That's just what a “King's Kid” does!
Happy Birthday, little Sis...I love you!

P.S.
Everybody that has an address in this country, gets “junk” mail. As a minister, I somehow get on Christian mailing lists, as well. I receive calendars and various gifts to get my financial support, just like everybody else. Some time ago, I got a mailing from an Indian Mission, and enclosed was this card entitled The Warrior's Prayer, translated from the teaching of Apostle Paul, on the Armour* of God, (Ephesians 6). At first, I thought it was referring to the Christian as a warrior because it had the Indian perspective on it. When I looked it up, I found that the verse labels above this teaching in my Scofield Bible, referred to God's people as “warriors”! I thought this was a fitting P.S. to today's article. Enjoy!
The Warrior's Prayer
Heavenly Father, your warrior prepares for battle. Today I claim victory over Satan by putting on the whole armour of God!
I put on the Girdle of Truth! May I stand firm in the truth of your Word so I will not be a victim of Satan's lies.
I put on the Breastplate of Righteousness! May it guard my heart from evil so I will remain pure and holy, protected under the blood of Jesus Christ.
I put on the Shoes of Peace! May I stand firm in the Good News of the Gospel so Your peace will shine through me and be a light to all I encounter.
I take the Shield of Faith! May I be ready for Satan's fiery darts of doubt, denial, and deceit so I will not be vulnerable to spiritual defeat.
I put on the Helmet of Salvation! May I keep my mind focused on You so Satan will not have a stronghold on my thoughts.
I take the Sword of the Spirit! May the two-edged sword of Your Word be ready in my hands so I can expose the tempting words of Satan.
By faith your warrior has put on the whole armour of God! I am prepared to live this day in spiritual victory!
Amen

God Bless You All!
