Personal Stuff

My web designer, who also happens to be my daughter, and I have been wanting to add to the site. We kicked around a few ideas, and decided to add some personal things I have written over the years. Having settled on content, next came the choosing of a title for our latest link. We discussed several, but nothing seemed quite right. Finally, out of the blue, I suggested “P.S.” (Personal Stuff)! As you can see, this section is more for recreational than educational reading, yet still inspirational! I hope you enjoy these musings as we meander together through some of the happenings, events, and personal memories of The Home Place. Additional writings will be posted periodically, so be sure to drop by again! ~~~~~~God Bless, Pastor Moser August, 2004

The Day God Was in the Wal-Mart Restroom

October 30, 2008

While shopping at my favorite store, I visited the ladies room.  As I was the only one in there, I heard the door open, and I could hear someone speaking as she entered the next stall.

With a slightly frail-sounding voice, she said... "Lord, I thank you that I made it here today.  But Lord, you know my legs hurt so bad.  Lord, please help me make it home.  God, you know I have one more stop to make and a 30 minute drive to go.  Give me strength to make my trip home.  Help me, Lord.  Touch me Lord, so I can make the journey.  Thank you Lord."

Standing at the sink, in the quiet of the moment, my heart was stirred and I knew that I needed to pray with this precious saint.  When her door opened, I smiled and said, "I heard you call on the name of my Father, so that means you're my sister, and I would like to pray for your safe journey home."

I touched her forehead with a drop of anointing oil (that I always carry in my purse), and laid my hands upon her.  I asked the Lord to bless her, and as I continued to pray, her chin quivered and tears rolled down her sweet face.

When the last amen was said, I felt her arms go around me and squeeze with all that was within her.  She said, "Thank you, my sister.  Thank you for praying with me.  That was so wonderful to find someone to agree with me.  Why do you think people don't do this more often?"

It was then that I realized, it is because we don't know the need.

Today, the Lord gave me the privilege to overhear this need in a Wal-Mart restroom!

Mister Moser

October 30, 2008

When I met Mr. Moser, he was just released from the hospital and needed to convalesce in a personal care home. I was registered with the hospital, so he was sent to my house. He fell in love with me and my daughters, and we eventually married. He was a little older than I but in good mental and physical health. He had been a music teacher, very active in his community, and was a godly man with a wonderful sense of humor. There was a lot of laughter in our home.

Throughout our years toge...

Cooking Class

October 30, 2008

Pastor's note: The following is an email sent to my neighbor after having her 3 daughters (ages 6-13) over to my house for a Christmas "cooking class."  All names have been changed to protect the guilty :)  I hope you enjoy our new links!

Hi Grace!

Just wanted to report that the girls behaved excellently in their first session of "Aunt Connie's Cooking Class."  Everyone had their own chores, and were kept busy.

We began class by having those who could write, take down the 2 recipes we ...

“Be Careful, Little Feet…”

October 30, 2008

Several years ago, a pastor friend of mine, who also happened to be an electrician, came to do some work for me. I had a small tool shed close to the back of the house, and he was going to run electricity to it. When it came time to connect to the electric box in the basement, he asked me to go in and throw the breaker.

I had a mid-sized house dog at that time, and if I was gone for a long while and she couldn’t get outside, she would go to the dark side of the basement to potty. It...

A Grandy Moment

October 30, 2008

Hello, My Boys...

Just a few lines to ask how you both are doing and to let you know that your "Grandmudder" is about the same. You know how I can get myself into some silly situations.

While sorting through the freezer the other day, I discovered
an ice cream container with coffee, a paper coffee filter,
and a measuring scoop in it. Needing the container, I
emptied the coffee into a plastic bag, laid the filter on
the table and put the scoop in the dishpan.

Later I had some errands to ...

A Grandy Day

October 30, 2008

Hi Boys,

Thought I'd drop you a few lines,  to let you know what your old 'grandmudder' has been up to. Not a whole lot going on here at the Homeplace...dog and I sitting around after supper on a quiet Sunday evening. It has been a bit of a bummer weekend, not that you guys ever have those, ha-ha.

I began yesterday like any other Saturday morning, so I thought, with no other plans but to sleep late and just putsy around the house. I had rented 3 movies the night before and just intend...

Dear Diary

October 30, 2008

January, 2007

I woke up this morning to snow, a sink full of dirty dishes, and yesterday's coffee.
Even worse, I had slept past the first 20 minutes of my favorite soap opera!
Argh, it must be Monday...

On Christianity in America:

It is twilight, and the wolves are encircling the sheepfold. Freedoms of religion and speech are eroding and those on the watchtower are asleep.

Arise, watchmen and sound the alarm..."run to the Harvest field,  for night is coming when no man can work". Je...

Daddy's Gonna Eat Your Fingers

October 30, 2008

As I was packing for a business trip, my three year old daughter was having fun playing on the bed. At one point she said, "Daddy... look at this," sticking out two of her fingers.

Trying to keep her entertained, I leaned over and took her tiny fingers into my mouth, and said "Daddy's gonna eat your fingers," pretending to eat them before I rushed out of the room again.

When I returned, my daughter was standing in the middle of the bed staring at her fingers, with a devastated look on h...

Contrast

October 30, 2008

I was driving down the main street in my home town, on my way to pick up my grandson from work.  Of course, the light turned red by the time I reached the intersection.  A funeral procession was approaching from the opposite direction, and made a right hand turn at the light.  I was thinking about the departed, and how the long string of cars following the hearse represented the mourners.  That person was loved, I thought.  The traffic light changed and I was on my way again.

I hadn't...

The Dragonfly

October 30, 2008

Today I saw a curious thing, most humans never see.
I was looking at a dragonfly, and he was looking back at me.

He had landed on my kitchen screen, the window open wide.
I wondered what had drawn him there, as I watched him from inside.

He seemed so very busy, although I didn't have a hunch.
He wasn't just a-passing through, he'd stopped by for lunch!

Putting on my glasses, I crept slowly 'cross the rug.
"No need to fear he'll fly away, he's munching on a bug!"
